Happy Sunday!
When people get to know me they soon realise that I have a thing for all things Marimekko!
Marimekko is a Finnish design company and ever since I first visited Finland with my mother in November 1999 a LOVE story began! My favourite design like many is the Unikko 'Poppy' design created by Maija Isola in 1964. It is a FAB design and now comes in many colour ways!
When I first started my design degree I was known as 'Marimekko Girl' until tutors learn't everybody's name! It's quite fitting that I chose to write my dissertation about the company. Anyway, on to today's card.
Whilst sitting at my desk thinking I should be doing more on my dissertation I was distracted and began to think about the material challenge over on A Passion for Papertrey! So I dug through my fabric pieces and found a small piece of the Unikko fabric I had used to make cushion covers.
I decided I wanted a fabric flower on my card and used a die from Sizzix. The small piece of fabric I had only had a small section of pink and white and was mostly the lovely poppy red colour. The combination of Poppy Red and Raspberry Pink with a white background and touch of black is one thing I love about the fabric and I used this for the colour combination for my card!
Above is a close up of the flower which is held together with a brad and fixed onto the card using foam pads. A simple sentiment from Blooming Button Bits and some metal accents add the touch of black! Well, it's inspired me to get on with my dissertation for a couple of hours before Sunday dinner!
